Your professional image in the office is largely dependent on what you wear. When you’re planning your outfits for the week keep the phrase “dress for success” in mind! It’s common for a company to have a set dress code that employees need to follow. Most professional women know that one should not wear a ton of accessories, short skirts and caked-on makeup to work. As a rule any skirt you wear to work should be one inch above your knee or longer! If you’re unsure of how a skirt will wear try moving around in it at home before deciding whether or not to wear it to work. Go through every day motions like sitting, bending over to pick things up, reaching for things above you etc. You can even do this in front of a mirror so you can see exactly how much your skirt shifts and rises during actions you’re likely to perform at work.

You shouldn’t excessively accessorize when going to work. You’re only going to earn the derision of your colleagues if they can hear your jangling bracelets and necklaces coming down the hall. Make sure your earrings are also modest, nothing more than an inch in length or width. Anything longer can distract and cause colleagues and clients alike not to take you seriously. Also avoid any outrageous fashion fads that may come along. You can save that for your free time and weekends out.

Finally, it is very important that your work outfit doesn’t show off too much skin. A shirt that is low-cut in the back or shows off cleavage is a definite no-no in the office. Anything transparent and any cut-outs are not considered professional attire. Keep your neckline modest or you’ll never be taken seriously as a business woman.

Once you have chosen an appropriate work outfit that adheres to all the aforementioned rules, focus on choosing the correct cosmetics. Your cosmetics should follow a minimalistic approach, appearing neutral and day-time friendly. Refrain from using too much bronzer, shadows or blushes with high shimmer, and glosses. Apply your make-up lightly, and avoid using a heavy hand. Bear in mind, that when considering cosmetics in a work setting, less is more.

Finally, once you have selected an appropriate ensemble for the office, you will not only feel comfortable, but you will have a greater self-confidence in all that you do.
